- Note
of the Last Meeting
The
Note of the last meeting was approved.
- Matters
Arising
2.1Karen McDonald, student, had been given photographs of
"Women at Work" which was the theme of her dissertation.
2.2 Cnag's questionnaire had been returned.
2.3Nina Moir met the Collections Management Consultant
2.4Amendment to item 3.5 of the last Note; 'Donna' not 'Dolina'
MacSween.
2.5The Young Historians' website would be incorporated onto
the main Comann Eachdraidh site. Taylor Edgar would be asked
to carry out the work and this would be paid by the Young
Historians project as eligible expenditure.
3. Finance
The
Treasurer circulated the financial statement. The balance
as at 30.9.2004 was £4,068.39.
4. Correspondence
4.1The Islands
Books Trust wrote
advertising a conference.
4.2A Hi-Arts circular regarding advertising of events in
their journal/or on their website. A. Murray would deal
with this.
4.3A
number of emails, mostly on genealogy, were received, including
one from a Bruce MacDonald with useful information on the
"Donn" Murrays .
The chairman is dealing with the emails.
4.4"Links: Partnership for Change" - enquired as to whether
the Comann Eachdraidh could provide a venue for exhibits.
Our premises were not large enough, although the community
hall could be booked for one-off occasions, but more usually
for our own purposes, rather than for a general exhibition.
5. Young Historians
5.1Nina's report was circulated. Balance statement stood
at £10,976.70. Project progressing well and the next
claim for funding would be made at the end of October 2004.
The melodeon tuition would resume after the October holiday
and a tuition fee had been agreed.
5.2Museum nan Eilean had indicated that they wanted a textual
contribution and photographs from the Young Historians for
their issue of Ceangal (also circulated at the meeting).
6. Bàrdachd Project
6.1Marsali was currently working in the library, but the project
could
accommodate a flexible working arrangement.
7. Impending Meetings
7.1 The Angus Macleod Memorial Lecture
was being given by Professor Donald Macleod of the Free
Church College at Pairc
School
on 19
October 2004 . It
was likely that two people would attend from the Comann
Eachdraidh.
7.2 Community Outreach Event . The Scottish
Parliament would be holding a meeting in the Comhairle's
Chamber on 4 November
2004 at 7.30. The
aim of this meeting would be to inform individuals/community
groups about the work of the Parliament. The Comann
Eachdraidh would be represented.
7.3 Merchant Seamen A general invitation
went out to all merchant seamen to attend two evening meetings
in the Town Hall on 4 and 5
November 2004 .
Mairead would relay this information to our own ex-seamen
in the village to ask them whether they would wish to attend.
8. Archaeology Group
8.1A questionnaire had been received from the above group
about Scotland 's
Rural Past. This would be something that the Comann Eachdraidh
would be very interested in and D.Murray would return the
questionnaire by 15
October 2004 .
8.2 Ard Walk The Ard walk would take place
next Tuesday ( 12
October 2004 ),
meeting at the Camach at 2pm. Dr Mary Macleod (Community
Archaeologist) would be invited along. One of the
areas on the Ard walk is an SSSI area.

9. Photographs
9.1The Comann Eachdraidh had received a lot of photographs.
These needed to be put in some sort of order and put on
a CD before the hard copies were lost. It was agreed that
we should pay for this to be done.
Visits
9.2Donald MacRitchie of Strathpeffer had visited the Comann
Eachdraidh (more on this in the next edition of Seanchas).
Donald Morrison (from Calgary
) had left some
materials of interest with D.Murray.
Membership
9.3Official membership stood at 352.
10.Date of next meeting
No date was set for the next meeting.
