of the meeting of the North Tolsta Historical Society at the
Schoolhouse, North Tolsta , on Wednesday, 5 September 2007,
at 7pm.

Note of the Last Meeting
The
Note of the last meeting was approved.
2.
Matters arising
Ard
Walk: the walk was anticipated for the following
Friday.
Recording
of ‘Aig Muir': R.Moir had recorded this event and
hoped to finalise editing for DVD production in due course.
Chriselle Ross ( Pròiseact na Sgeulachdan )
had also recorded the “sgeulachdan " aspect
of the evening and Donald Saunders would send us an unedited
copy.
New
computer : had been installed although not connected
to broadband. Cost of the computer - c.£1k.
Hebridean
Connections : clarification required from the last
Minute as to whether they were interested in using our web
site as a forum for correspondence/promoting awareness,
etc, rather than setting up their own for this purpose.
R.Moir confirmed that they were interested and we had agreed
to this as per the Minute of the previous meeting.
Archiving
and Digitisation: Angus would follow this up with
Mark Elliot - possible funding from Museum nan Eilean
of £10k to be shared between all Comann
Eachdraidhs .

Genealogy /Archive
77
crofts completed. Next lot would include Hill Street and
Lochside which would leave Glen Tolsta/New Tolsta. Might
be as many as three volumes (of croft histories). Still
on course for Heb' Connections which hopes to commence in
2008, subject to funding.
Donald
Murray would continue with the research although he requested
that a group be formed to check names against photographs,
patronymics, etc. Sandra, Anna, Alex Angus, Angus, Mairead,
and Murdo agreed to help.
4.
Projects
Projects
were progressing well and expenditure and claims were processed
timeously.
5.
Social evening
The
proposed social evening with the theme: ‘women and jobs'
would probably be held in October 2007 at the earliest.
Some organisational help required for photographs, etc.
6.
Hebridean Connections
Check
web site for updates, etc.
7.
Finance
Balance
of £3,538.91 on the evening of the meeting. The computer
could be charged to ‘Projects' as legitimate expenditure.
Correspondence e-mail request from SAFHS
requesting information about cemeteries in our area.
Acair is preparing a book called Mnathan nan
Eilean and requested information on island women,
including a list of women who had worked in munitions 1914-1918,
for this publication.
Theatre
Hebrides : open seminar to be held on 13 September 2007
in the Town Hall.
Voluntary
Action Lewis: AGM to be held on 17 September 2007 at 7.30
in the Caber Feidh Hotel, for those interested in attending.
Jura
Consultants requested views on proposals to move Museum
nan Eilean to the Lews Castle - comments by 10 September
2007.
Further
correspondence re the ‘Nurse's home' 1929 (JT Newman); MacIvers
– referred to Stornoway Historical Society; and from Graham
MacDonald regarding a photo in Seanchas.
Vote of Thanks
On
behalf of the Comann Eachdraidh :
the
Chairman thanked Mairead for donating Angus Macleod's
(Siugaidh) archive, etc, to the Comann Eachdraidh .
the
Chairman also thanked Ruairidh Moir for all his efforts
to date and wished him well with his studies. Ruairidh would
be leaving the Islands shortly to study architecture at
Strathclyde University .
