I am a grandchild of Donald MacLean (Croft
63) and Annie MacLeod. Settled in North
Vancouver BC, Donald and Annie had three
children that survived to adulthood - John
Danie(Ian), Donald and Margaret (Peggy).
Their first child, a girl, died in infancy. Ian (my
father) had five children, Donald had four and
Peggy three. Donald MacLean died in 1964,
Annie in 1977 at age 92. Of
their children, only Donald is still living.

As confirmed by your records (very interesting,
and thank you) Donald MacLean emigrated
with his brother John. Their first stop was New
Eden, Quebec before working their way
across Canada to Vancouver. Annie followed
some years later.
When Donald was established in Canada.
Alexander came to Canada after WWI.
Alexander (Alec) died in 1958 at Bralorne BC
and John at New Westminter BC
sometime after 1977 (the actual date can
easily be confirmed).
Recently I returned to university and prepared
a short history of the life of the MacLeans in
North Vancouver.
Although the family here has lost touch with
the cousins of North Tolsta, I am sure there
are some still living in the area who might find
the document interesting.
I have some information about a Duncan
Murray, my grandfather's lifelong friend,
also from North Tolsta. He too came to
Canada, eventually settling on a ranch in
Montana. In my family records I have some of
Duncan Murray's papers, including WWI
documents. Should any of Duncan Murray's
descendent's get in touch
with you, I would be very happy to return these
papers. I believe that he left his personal
papers with my grandfather for safekeeping
when he went to the United States.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you
for the work that you and your
colleagues are doing with the historical
society. Marjorie MacLean,
Vancouver BC

I would be delighted to hear from Marjorie, and receive a copy of the history of the MacLeans in North Vancouver. My father, Murdo, was a brother of Donald MacLean( No 63), and had actually emmigrated to Canada as well, working in Copper Mines with his brothers, and eventually working on a Canadian Pacific ferry between Vancouver and Vanouver Island, before returning home to Lewis in the early 30's, where he remained until his death in 1982.
I actually retain original papers from the Memorial Funeral Service for both Donald and Alexander Maclean, from 1958 and 1962 respectively, and would dearly love to finally have contact with our family members in Canada.
Look forward to an early reply.
