After
1988, the team continued to compete in the Eilean
an Fhraoich Cup until 1998. The club has, however,
this year made a welcome return to that same cup
competition (more on this here).
For
most of the period between 1976 and 1988, the
club played in white shirts with a horizontal
red and blue stripe across the chest and blue
shorts. Apart from a short time when they were
sponsored by N D Macleod and wore that firm's
colours, comprising yellow
shirts and red shorts.
Their
record in Lewis and Harris Football Association
(LHFA) competitions was very good for one of the
'smaller' clubs, especially in cup competitions:
Lewis Cup Runners Cup in 1983, Acres Boys' Cup
Winners Cup in 1983 and Runners Up in 1985, 1986
and 1988; Jock Stein Cup Winners Cup in 1979 and
Runners Up in 1978 and 1982; Eilean an Fhraoich
Cup Winners in 1981 and Runners Up in 1986. Their
highest league position was third in 1982.
One
of the leading lights of the club was the late
Iain 'Patchy' Murray who gave a number of local
players their first opportunity to play senior
football and thereafter did much to keep a number
of teams of varying age groups afloat. He also
had the uncanny ability to find players at short
notice to play for him, from throughout the Western
Isles and further afield. As a result there are
probably quite a number of people dotted throughout
the globe who have played for Tolsta at one time
or another![Let
