Note of the Meeting of the North Tolsta Historical Society at the Schoolhouse, North Tolsta on Monday 27th May 2013 at 7.30p.m.

  1. Minute of Meeting of 24th April 2013 

Note of the meeting of 24th April 2013 was approved. 

  1. Matters Arising   

No further information from Tobar an Dualchais. 

Hebridean Connections Email received from Donna Morrison regarding workshops entitled ‘Intro to Social Media’ and ‘Doing More with Social Media, both workshops to take place on Tuesday 28th May from 9.30am to 12.30pm and again in the afternoon.  Tristan and Donna will be present at the afternoon session.  An invitation is extended to any committee member wishing to attend. 

Cladach Road Sign to be erected at the entrance to this road for the attention of drivers of motor homes and other large vehicles as they are damaging the road surface.  Donald to enquire about sign.  No further information from Mackays regarding some minor repairs to road. 

  1. Social Evenings. 

Andrew Maciver (26) has carried out research on his father’s wartime service and is prepared to give a presentation in the Community Hall towards the end of the year.  A date for Maggie Smith’s evening in the hall to be arranged. 

  1. Seanchas     special colour edition of Seanchas is to be included in the Autumn Edition of Seanchas   to celebrate the completion of the wind turbine. All companies involved in the construction to be approached for advertising and this would go some way to help with the publishing costs.  Meeting to be held in July to discuss this edition.  Sales of Seanchas are down due to elderly population declining.  Suggestions for other outlets were airport, ferry and Callanish. 

  2. Per Capita Grant   £500 has been received from C.N.E.S. also a grant of £186.43 when we purchase a printer and digital recorder.  Cllrs J.A. Maciver, C. Stewart and D. Crichton to give £200 each from ward initiative towards the cost of equipment.  D. Murray thanked J.A. Maciver for this most welcome donation. 

  3. Heritage Lottery First World War Programme  

Heritage Lottery has launched a £6 million small grants project to help communities mark the Centenary of the First World War.  Project is called First World War: Then and Now.  The committee agreed unanimously that we should get involved.  Cathie Mary agreed to investigate the requirements in the application form with a view to submitting an application from the Comann Eachdraidh.  This to be discussed at the next meeting. 

  1. Suggestions for Facebook  There has been a good response and some very positive feedback to the Facebook.  There were no specific new suggestions.  The favourite beach photos proved popular and gave rise to a lot of comments. 

  2.  Finance and Correspondence   Finances stand at £4751.68. 

Correspondence from C.N.E.S regarding funding updates. 

Letter from Islands Book Trust about Slighe Chaluim Chille which will take place from 20th – 22nd June in Orinsay Hall and Ravenspoint. 

AOCB  J.A. Maciver informed the meeting that Rev D. Campbell would be very pleased to arrange a guided tour of various historic sites in Edinburgh once he relocates and gets settled.  The committee expressed their appreciation of this suggestion and will be arranged at a later date. 

Morag reported that talks and presentations at the NTHS could be streamed via youtube and then shared through the website and facebook page.
