Note of the Meeting of the North Tolsta Historical Society at the Schoolhouse, North Tolsta on Wednesday 24th April at 7.30p.m

  4. Minute of Meeting of 12th. March 2013 

Note of the meeting of 12th. March 2013 was approved. 

  1. Matters Arising  Still awaiting quote from Mackays for repairs to Cladach Road. New layer of fine gravel needed. Still waiting to hear if Grazings Committee is willing to assist with costs. 

Tobar an Dualchais  More than 20 tapes have been sent to Uist to be digitised. Recordings will then be up to archive standards. A new hard drive has also been purchased in order that backup copies will be kept. 

  1. Social Evenings. 

The social evening that was held on Friday 12th. April was very successful. Colin Tucker gave a very informative talk which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. Door collection on the evening was £209.00. D. Macdonald to ask Maggie Smith for possible dates for Social Evening in July

  1. Heritage Lottery Application   Donald has submitted the C.E. application. He has been informed that a decision will be given after the board meeting in June. 

  2. Seanchas     Material for next edition of Seanchas is now ready. As the new wind turbine is due to arrive in the village at the end of next week it was suggested that the C.E. produce a Special Edition Seanchas to mark this event. Chair to discuss this with D. Maciver TCDL 

  3. Hebridean Connections Meeting 17th. April.      D. Murray, D. Macdonald and C. Macleod met with Dr Tristan ap Rheinallt and Donna Morrison.  Donna and Tristan discussed their roles in this project and how they could help the C.E. They looked at some of the genealogical records held by the C.E.  

Tristan has been appointed Project Manager and Donna has been appointed Training and Quality Standards Manager. The project follows on from an earlier initiative that resulted in the launch, in 2006, of a multimedia Hebridean Connections website that incorporated historical records from 4 Comainn Eachdraidh. One of the specific objectives of the current project is to expand and enhance this website with the incorporation of records from additional organisations in any part of the Western Isles. Training in IT and other relevant skills will be provided to volunteers so that they will be able to participate effectively. The project is managed on behalf of the Comainn Eachdraidh by the Islands Book Trust. This Project is funded by the Scottish Government, H.I.E., and C.N.E.S.

  1. Website and Facebook 

Taylor Edgar has now updated website.  Thanks to Taylor for also setting up Facebook page. 

  1. Per Capita Grant Application  Grant Application Form has now been submitted. Committee agreed that as our printer is old an application should be submitted for a new 3 in 1 printer. 

  2.  Finance and Correspondence---Balance at 17th. April was £4796.49. 

Correspondence to say that lady in Film G was from Tolsta Chaolais and not North Tolsta. 

Zena Stewart has requested if information about Bethesda could be included in Seanchas. This was ageeed.  Karen Clavelle has e-mailed to give update on the progress of her book.   Request from Niall Bartlett for First World War poems composed by Murdo Murray. 

AOCB  Talk to be given by Marjory Harper in the County Hotel Stornoway on Thursday 2nd.  May at 7p.m. Topic is Emigration from Scotland in the 20th Century.
